Photography of the Tour of Rwanda 2010

August 24, 2011

Photography plays a vital role in cycling, bringing the colors and images of races to a public, often a world away. Good pictures capture the pain, suffering, emotion of cycling in ways that are too frequently missed in moving film. And sometimes, its the sidelines or behind-the-scenes shots that most animate a race, its characters, and dynamics. In good photographs are displayed the contours of sport and the human drama therein. Accompanying Philip Gourevitch’s essay on the Rwandan cycling team in the online version of The New Yorker is this terrific photo essay from Dominic Nahr. Well worth a look!
