Today’s Ride: 80km—Valens, Clyde, Sheffield, Troy, Orkney. So, basically, northern England, Scotland, and the Ionian Coast

Weather: Sunny

Weekend lethargy can be a killer. Waking up Saturday: the week over, fatigue set in. Why get out of bed? Why go for a ride? As I age, I find the morning aches more debilitating and numerous. Today was one of the first days in quite some time that it took some effort to force myself out the door. Fitness is good, but the idea of taking a day off was awfully appealing as I lounged in bed and stumbled out for breakfast.

I would have regretted it by the end of the day, of course, so it’s just as well I headed out. And the morning started in ideal style for the laziness that beset my morning start. A long line at Café Domestique, teeming with cyclists, and a number of my students out on the patio delayed the real departure. It was nice to catch up with the students, many of whom graduated over the summer—these were some of the brightest people I’ve had the privilege to work with, and a nice reminder that I do, in fact, like most aspect of my job. Espresso in, then up Sydenham Rd. At the top, I passed a colleague from Engineering, running. I slowed and chatted with him for half a kilometer or so. Nice and lazy. Then off again.

A good loop, and definitely better for doing it.
