Today’s Ride: 20km—Mineral Springs

Weather: Sunny, mild

We’ve been hit by some formidably warm and dry winter for early February. Nary a sign of winter in the air or on the ground. Which would be good for riding if I could find time and opportunity to get more frequently. I’ve failed on that count, but did get out for a quick loop this afternoon. And as temperatures cool later in the week, I’ll try to get out again—and maybe for more than an hour. I’ve been itching to revisit a couple of different roads that I haven’t seen in several months, but the last few rides have involved getting out for only an hour where a small window permits.

Today, I felt good. The road felt incredibly rough, though, which was a funny sensation. The bike felt loud and the road felt bumpy. Not a pleasant combination, especially since I thought I was going well. One of the cogs midway up the cassette was especially noisy, which was a nuisance, and I’ll need to work that out. But the ride was nice, even if I was trying to avoid a middle gear. Fitness felt good, though it was only a short ride. Definitely much better than this time last year, but I’ll need to try a longer ride or two to see where I’m really at. Power: good. And it’s nice to be able to work on the stroke this early in the year.
